Updates to Toggl Android App (and a Little Something to Watch Out For)

It has been a busy few months since the last blog update and we have spent a lot of our time developing the android app. Last week we released the newest update (8.0.9) with a ton of new features and bug fixes.

Let me take you through some of the changes we did along the way.

So, what’s new?

It’s a material world! As already announced, we have gone material with the latest releases of Toggl app. Last update adds a floating action button to make it extra easy for you to do the most important actions. Depending on the screen you are, the button is used for starting and stopping the timer, adding manual entries and creating new projects.

Pull & Refresh. As is the android way, we have moved syncing from the drawer to the entries list. You can initiate sync by just pulling the home screen list down and releasing it.
Better UX. Putting focus on allowing first-time users to get used to the app. We also started to implement new ways of letting our users know and get used to new features. We are starting a new OBM experiment with every new release now. First off we have a guide to start your first entry and an empty state for the project screen.

Project management

We have put a lot of effort into remaking our projects screen. First off, you can now sort your projects by name or group them by client. In case you have more than one workspace, we’ve put each one of the workspaces into a separate tab, ordering the most used to be on top. If you’re still having problems finding your project you can use search to find the right one.

Coming This Christmas – Android Wear

A lot about Toggl user experience is tied to context and ease of access. We have designed and built a dedicated watch app to handle the basic capabilities of Toggl on your wrist. Now you can start, stop and continue your entries straight from your wrist.

Keep in mind that this is still in alpha state and we will be working on making it better!

Besides all that, we have introduced a lot of bug fixes recently. If you spot anything that you think is not working as it should, feel free to drop us a line at, or post it here in the comments.

  1. Well more than a year later and I still see no toggl app for either android wear or the apple watch. Can someone please let us know where you are at with these plans?
