Project page revamped

There was a version upgrade today. Project page is rewritten to be more compact and intuitive to use.

  1. Toggl is awesome, we really love here at our studio, but I dislike one change you made to the standard web interface (don’t know about the widget). Now when adding new projects, I don’t have the option of choosing to let “EVERYONE” view the project. It automatically defaults to members only, and so I have to find the project in my project list and edit it myself. The old system let me select who could see the project during creation. Any thoughts on making this a little simpler?

  2. Just wanted to say that I think this product is brilliant. I am an attorney and tracking my time was THE biggest headache. Every attorney who works on billable hours should be forced to use this product! Many legal secretaries will thank you for this! I have been using it for about 3 months now. The change threw me a little but now I have adjusted and it seems fine – no problems to report.

  3. Thanks alari. One good and versatile version would be ideal. I hope your improvements turn out well. I think Toggl is great overall, but I know you’re still in the development process with it.

  4. Hi Geoffrey, thanks for the feedback. We’d prefer to have one version of the page. You have several good points, we’re going to gradually improve the project view.

  5. Hate to say it, but my honest initial impression is that I prefer the previous layout and UI more than this. The previous style was clearer and cleaner in my opinion. I really liked seeing ALL my planned tasks up front with the larger progress bars. (BTW, progress bars are currently broken and not displaying the red overtime color, but rather pushing a green bar past the right boundary of it’s box.)

    The one column vertical layout worked better for my own use because I don’t use the team or comments functions, so those boxes just create huge void space. This UI might be much improved if users could somehow customize it to their uses, like perhaps be able to close or hide the boxes they don’t use, and expand the ones they do use to a full width size. In my case, I would like to close the team and comments boxes, and expand the planned tasks box for the stated reasons, and also because I typically use a lot of detailed and complex task descriptions which make my tasks list very long in this narrow column — it’s too much scrolling. Another small thing I’ve been wanting for the planned tasks function is the ability to enter fractions of an hour in the estimated time field and calculation. Currently it only accepts whole rounded hours, but I’d like to be able to enter half an hour for some things.

    I hope that you’ll consider these impressions in further refining the interface, or if it’s going to stay the way it is now — please offer those of us who liked the old version the choice to switch between the two, like you’ve done with the classic timer and Timer Nano (I never use nano, the UI doesn’t work well for me).
