How To Convince Your Employees to Adopt New Tools

Whether you work in an office on a team of 10 or are a part of a 150 person remote company, one of the biggest workplace challenges can be getting people to adopt new practices.

Resistance or not, having the right mix of productivity tools at your fingertips makes all the difference when it comes to staying organized and meeting deadlines.

Since we’re all creatures of habit, here are some tried and true methods to make these types of transitions a bit less painful:

#1 Do your research

Imagine this: You spend three weeks diligently adding project codes, client information, and importing historical data to a new program.

The team starts tracking what they’re doing and before you know it, your client is ready for their monthly progress report.

You login to the fancy new tool you’ve been using and uh-oh: they actually don’t offer the reporting structure you need.

Save yourself and your team the pain of eagerly adopting the wrong software by checking out features, pricing and how data is organized before jumping in with both feet.

A few extra hours drilling down exactly what you need in the research phase of tool selection will minimize your chances of ending up in a sinkhole of despair if you choose a dud.

#2 Try before you buy

Just like doing your research, getting hands-on experience with a tool is a must if you want to ensure the best possible outcome.

You can pick the most feature packed programs around, but you actually have to use these tools religiously to see the benefits (crazy, we know).

So, go ahead – test things out!

See how user friendly it is, determine if it fits with your workflow and check out what integrations are available.

If your team is remote or traveling offsite is a frequent part of the job, see how well the app versions of your chosen programs work, too.

Many services will offer a free trial of their software so take full advantage and take it for test drive – just remember to cancel it if you decide to go in another direction.

#3 Ask the experts

So you’ve done your research, maximized your free trial period and are ready to roll out your shiny new software pick to the entire company.
