How To Be Creative When You Aren’t Feeling Creative [Comic]

If there’s one thing creative workers know, it’s the frustration of feeling blocked. There’s an idea lingering somewhere in the back of your mind but nothing you do is able to knock it out.

We feel you, which is why we’ve made this handy infographic on how to be creative when you’re not really feeling it.

If you work in a creative field, you’ve probably experienced a moment of accidental brilliance. Inspiration is thrilling when it strikes. But it’s also fleeting and unreliable.

It feels convenient to use lack of inspiration as a scapegoat for procrastination. As the artist, Chuck Close said, “Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just show up and get to work.”

We all get better at our craft through practice. Part of this labor is pushing through blockers, whether they be procrastination or perhaps anxiety that what you make might not meet your high standards. It’s ok to have off days. Not everything you make will be amazing.

It’s the act of working through the off, persisting beyond the blocks, that will strengthen your work. Now, what are you waiting for? Go out and make something.

Comics inspire me to be creative. Do you have more?

I’m not totally sure if I believe you, but since you asked, we do indeed.

If you’re a creative, there’s also a good chance you’re a freelancer. We did a comic explaining the different issues freelancers deal with when working with clients.

It’s likely that you, at least occasionally, work from home. In that case, you’re in for a treat. We’ve done a comic about the differences between working from home and working from an office as well as a choose your own productivity adventure!

If you’re a freelancer, are someone has probably asked you to work for free. If you find yourself in that situation, try out our Freelance Email Generator.  Just let us know how much money was offered and how professional you’d like the response to be, then let the generator do its thing!

We’ll also keep doing these comics, so like us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram if you want these delivered directly to you!

We also post on LinkedIn if you want to pretend you’re doing work.
