With today’s release, a lot of stuff was dropped:

old Classic timer; it has been replaced by the new Classic;

old API; view documentation and code samples about our new RESTful API;

old Windows-only Toggl Desktop (version 1.0.3 and lower) – it has been replaced by the new cross-platform Toggl Desktop.

If you are experiencing strange behaviour, do a refresh to the web page or Toggl Desktop. Questions, comments and everything else can be posted here as a comment or you can write directly to our support mail address.

Toggl Team

UPDATE: There has been a lot of complaints about missing features in the new Classic timer. Here is a list of things that we are improving in the very near future (hopefully we’ll manage to do it next week):

search bar – will search from the task names again;

click on a project name – will start a new task;

title of the pop-out window – will include the current task name in it.

We released a new version of Toggl Desktop today – 2.6.0. Here is a list of changes compared to the previous version (2.5.1):

Autopilot
Autopilot is now out of beta and inside Toggl Desktop. What is Autopilot, you ask? Autopilot studies the applications (and the words in the title bar) you use while tracking different projects. After a short study period, it can give you suggestions on what project to track, based on the application currently in focus. Since it matches your projects with the application and the words in the title bar then you can use the same set of tools on different projects and Autopilot can tell them apart.

When you have a tendency to forget switching off the timer when finishing a task, you’ll find Autopilot quite useful. It will also help you catch all the seconds when your work time is very fragmented across different projects.

If you get a chance to test-drive the Autopilot for a day or two, it would be great if you could fill out a very short survey (takes about 2 minutes) about how useful you found it. That would help us improve it.

NB! Autopilot works currently only with timer Nano! Support for the new Classic will follow soon. Old Classic will not have Autopilot support. You might want to check out the Autopilot FAQ page as well.

New Classic timer
You can now use the new Classic timer inside Toggl Desktop. It has been added to the list of available timers. Simply right-click the system tray icon and select “Timer Classic Nova”.

Improved offline support
Many small fixes to improve the behaviour in offline mode.

Download the new Toggl Desktop.

NB2! The new version is available for Windows and Mac. Linux users must wait a bit until we get Autopilot working their OS too.

Cheers,

Toggl Team

We are going to release the Toggl Autopilot next week. It is an extension to the popular Toggl Desktop.

Essentially, the Autopilot is a helpful little fellow, whose mission is to help you track your time. It will study your behaviour by memorizing the projects you are tracking and the applications that are in focus while tracking. After a short study period, it can give you suggestions on what project to track, based on the application currently in focus.

The Autopilot is most useful when you have a tendency to forget switching off the timer when finishing a task. It will also help you catch all the seconds when your work time is very fragmented across different projects.

The Autopilot is currently in the beta-testing stage. We’re releasing it with a separate beta version of Toggl Desktop.

Great news for all of our Linux, Mac and Windows hackers!

We just released the new version of Toggl Desktop (v2.5) as open source. You can find the code at Launchpad.

The regular update procedure (the new version notification dialog) remains the same, so nothing changes for our users who are not interested in the C++ code. The new version is also available on our web page.

However, the new version brought some changes for our Linux users.

Since the new Toggl Desktop uses Qt4.6 and this is not yet in all the repositories then Linux users must enter a few commands to get the necessary dependencies. Here are the steps:

Ubuntu/Kubuntu

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/beta
sudo apt-get update
launch the installer

Debian

Unfortunately Debian repositories do not include the Qt4.6 yet (except the experimental), so Debian users will have to wait until the Qt4.6 is available in their repository.

The 64-bit Linux version will be available tomorrow.

UPDATE (Linux): You can now add Toggl Desktop to your repository sources list and use the native update mechanism:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:official-toggl/ppa
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install toggl-desktop

Cheers,

Toggl Team

Hey!

We renamed the Toggl Widget to Toggl Desktop (v. 2.0). The new Toggl Desktop is a cross-platform application and will replace the old Toggl Desktop. The old one (which is for Windows only) will be discontinued. The old Toggl Desktop will remain functional, of course.

The new Toggl Desktop will take over all the functionality of the old one and there will be more. Soon, the new and very much improved autopilot will be available in the new Toggl Desktop. The new version of the application also has much improved offline handling.

Download the new Toggl Desktop!

Some notes on the installation/upgrade procedure:

On Windows, the installer will first remove the old Toggl Desktop and the Widget (if you have them) and will then install the new version of the application.

On Mac, it will be installed as a separate application and you’d have to remove the old Toggl Widget manually.

On Linux, the Widget will be replaced by the Toggl Desktop automatically.

Timer Nano is the default timer with the new Toggl Desktop. You can switch to Timer Classic easily by right-clicking on the tray/dock icon.

There are also other updates:

We just released a new version of Toggl Desktop. It features full offline mode.

That means that you don’t have to have access to Internet to use Toggl Desktop.

There is one prerequisite: the first login has to be done while connected to the Internet. Toggl Desktop has to download your projects and tasks and save them on your hard drive.

After that, you can log in/out, open/close the app, create/delete/modify tasks without an Internet connection. The changes made while being offline will be uploaded to our server when Toggl Desktop detects the presence of a connection. You, as a user, won’t have to do anything.

Currently it is not possible to add clients and projects while being offline.

If your Toggl Desktop is currently running and would like to upgrade, then just close the application and reopen it. It will then give you the possibility to download the new version. Or you can just click here: http://download.toggl.com/toggldesktop/TogglDesktopSetup.exe

Cheers,
