Hello all,

The long-awaited integration with Planner is finally here! You can find it under Settings – Integration:

The instructions are also displayed above, but in a nutshell you have to fill in your Planner account name and the API token (found under My Profile in Planner). Automatic sync is optional.

What will be synchronized?

Team members, clients and projects are imported from Planner.

Team members, clients and projects are exported to Planner (effectively keeping the two lists in sync between two applications).

Sub-tasks in Planner become (planned) tasks in Toggl; this works in both ways.

Please note that the first time you sync, it might take a couple of minutes to complete, depending on the amount of tasks. And archived projects will not get synced, in case you were wondering.

As always, your feedback is appreciated!

The link “View project” will take you this projects view. Here are couple of other new features – first, the project page has been re-ordered so that team and tasks are at the top, to provide easier access to most used functions. Another, this time a pro feature is setting rate for team members within a project:

Just click on “set rate” and you can set individual rates for team members, which are then used in reporting. If no individual rate is set, project or client specific rate is used.

Hi everybody.

After the new version launch this Tuesday, we have had a lot of not-so-good feedback from our users. It seems that many don’t understand why we needed to change Toggl again. I’ll try to explain why the new version was necessary:

For the majority of new users, the old Toggl was very confusing. They did not get what the timers were and how to use them. In addition, the main mission of Toggl – tracking time – was not clear since there were too many navigation options to choose from.

The fact that the task’s duration and start/stop times were not strictly synchronized (i.e. the duration did not equal stop minus start time), was another source of confusion. This was also one of the most requested things to update.

Those two were the main drivers that got us into creating a new and re-thought version.

However, based on the recent feedback, it seems that for a lot of you, these changes are not for the better. We would like to know your thoughts on how or what exactly is wrong with the new version. And for that purpose, we constructed a short survey that should give us some insights. Here is the survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BJW6WZV.

Update: Almost 2 weeks have passed, we’ve now stopped collecting responses and are working on the results which will be posted as a separate blog entry.

Since the old version continues to be up and running for the next two months, we have plenty of time to make adjustments and fixes to the new version to make it suitable for you. So, give us your thoughts by filling in the short survey form, and let’s make Toggl better!

Thanks!

Toggl Team

To make your Toggl account more personal, we added a possibility to upload an avatar.

You can find the new version at http://new.toggl.com. It works on the same database as the current version. So, you can log in with your account and all the changes made in the new version (tasks created, projects changed, etc) are carried over to the current version. No data is lost when you use the new version.

The reason why we moved the billable flag and tags to the Pro version is we want to keep the free version for basic time tracking. Everything related to billing, integrations, productivity, etc. can be found in the Pro version.

The old (current) version and the new one will work side-by-side until the end of this year. After that, the old version will be dropped. All the great new features that are in our pipeline (integration with invoicing apps, new public reports, planned tasks overhaul, etc.) will be added only to the new version. No new stuff for the old version, bugfixes only.

Nothing will change with our timers Nano and Classic, they are here to stay. The only difference is that you can’t use them on the website directly (the new “Home” page does the tracking). If you have used a timer on the web page, try the task timer in the new version or use Toggl Desktop.

NB! This is the first public version of new Toggl. Your suggestions and comments will shape it during the next couple of months. Let us know what you think.

Cheers,

Toggl Team

UPDATE: There has been a lot of complaints about missing features in the new Classic timer. Here is a list of things that we are improving in the very near future (hopefully we’ll manage to do it next week):

search bar – will search from the task names again;

click on a project name – will start a new task;

title of the pop-out window – will include the current task name in it.
