Stable is the last word I would use to describe this release, unfortunately
Oh no :S Could you tell us what’s gone wrong for you, perhaps we can find a solution?
You really need to invest more time in making your Android application worth using.
A desktop application is simply not needed.
Thanks. The application works great for me, no problems so far.
Can you add retina support for Mac Desktop version?
Yeah, after the update on my Mac (10.8.2) it crashed and wouldn’t open again. I reinstalled it and it worked fine though.
@Alex, retina support is coming soon, we’re currently working on it.
Like which version is it? It would be helpful if you told us. The version of 4 that I have now on my machine is 4.75.(blah,blah). Maybe you can add the version number to the download name … ex. toggledesktopv4.75.(blah blah).
The latest are 4.86.1 for Linux and Mac OSX, and 4.85.1 for Windows
Although toggle web interface is excellent, the Toggle desktop utility still doesn’t match up to many other desktop utilities such as Funario
Please add the following features:
1. An option of a minimized screen that will stay on top of other windows
2. An option of reminders that will pop up every period of time (with an option to determine that period) that will remind the user to start tracking time or to check that we are still working on the same project (when working on multiple projects, our users often forget to start tracking or to change the project)
3. An option to start a new project while pausing the previous one and multiple tracking
Thanks for the updates.
I am always amazed at the ignorant comments users post. Like the one indicating there is no need for desktop application. I could make the same statement regarding android, as I have no use for an android app. Think before you write, as you are not the only user.
@Eric: Amen!
@Doron: Maybe YOU don’t need a desktop application, but to say it is “simply not needed” is short-sighted and certainly out of touch.
Aren’t we on 4.86 now?
I agree, when 4.0 first came out it was a mess. It works perfectly now though!
thanks!
The new mobile/offline toogle interface is too heavy. Too complicated to render on my phone, even my desktop has now a hard time to load the interface. This is not an improvement.
It looked very strange on my computer. Win7. I could not move the window as I could not get hold of the top bar. Resize worked.
Later I restarted and it worked as expekted.

On windows (Win7) the version when opening the “Preferences” the panel that shows the preferences dialog covers up the “close” button

I like the interface a lot better and glad it’s not making me log in every time I restart my computer anymore.
So, I’ve had v4 since it was beta. If I don’t have the latest it should have prompted an update right?
Multiple item tracking would be a great feature to have. Being able to pause and start a new, and being able to switch back and forth easily would be great also.
I’m confused as well.. I have v4.86.1… is 4.0 newer than v4.86? or did you somehow do 86 minor releases in two days and auto update me?
Nice job. Thanks!
Past version would not allow me to log in. This one is working great. Thank you.
The .msi file for the Windows 7 doesn’t seem to function. “The installation package could not open”. Some of us definitely “simply need” a windows application since this is where we work. Is there another location to download the .msi file?
Adding new clients from the Desktop app doesn’t work right for me. After the modal window closes, I have to go back one screen then come back to see the new client in the dropdown list. This used to work, but not since 4.0.
having problems with the new version and seeing if anyone else is experiencing this.
seems that when you continue with an entry, it will create an entire new entry.
to reproduce do the following:
start and entry and let it run for a couple of seconds, then click stop. now click on that entry and click the continue button. let that run for a couple of seconds and then click stop. you will see an entire new entire has been created.
this is really causing problems when i have to stop and start entries to properly track the time between breaks.
note that this also occurs if you click the green arrow next to an entry to continue.
I know there is a workaround, but it’s really annoying that Linux versions are packaged only in deb. At least rpm should be available, and a tar.gz would be perfect.
While I have’t used all the features of the desktop app yet (like adding new clients/projects) it does seem to work OK on my Retina MBP. One small annoyance is that if you happen to hit ‘enter’ after typing a comment in the “What are you working on?” field it stops the timer.
Also, “prettier” must be in the eye of the beholder – I still miss the old desktop app with the big, round, red button to start/stop timers…..
win7 64bit, cant move the window at all. All the buttons and interface looks very grainy as well.
Hey everyone, really sorry for the delayed reaction, here comes an epic reply -
* Thanks for the ideas and suggestions, we’ve made note
* Thanks for the support, great to hear it is working properly for some users also
* If you’re having specific issues, bugs and the like, please email them to support-at-toggl-dot-com so we could tackle them on a case-by-case basis.
* For Windows: We’ll be working on the Preferences window, sorry it’s such a mess. With regard to the missing boarders or not being able to move the window, an exit and restart will solve this. Again, apologies for the bug!
* Autoupdates should now be working as well, if you exit and restart and don’t get prompted to update, you most likely have the latest version. Right click on the tray icon and choose ‘About TogglDesktop’ to check the version you have if you’re not sure.
* If you’re having trouble with the installation file, close the wizard, delete all the installation files you have on your computer, and then download again. If that doesn’t help, pls email support.
@Olivier about adding clients – thanks, we’ll check this bug out.

I’m a big fan of Toggl. I use the web, Linux desktop and the Android versions quite often though not as much as I should.
I do wish there were two different versions of the Desktop app like a Light version (which currently exists) and a more full fledged version like the web version. Right now the Desktop version is basically as useful as the Android version and that is disappointing.
Desktop and Android versions are great for quick usage and basic tracking but they are both crap when it comes to management. I can understand why the Android version is like that…I wouldn’t want to manage it from a phone or tablet anyway but Why the heck is the Desktop version dumbed down?
Works great!! Sounds like everyone needs better computers. Toggl is great.
Another note is that it is absolutely stupid that the Desktop version is dumbed down when all it is is just a prepackaged webpage inside of a chromium shell.
WTF?!? Why can’t you put the full web version inside of the chromium shell? It simply doesn’t make sense.
Though I would want a light version like you have made…I am not saying remove it…I am saying there should be both.
I can’t move this application around the desktop because it doesn’t have a bar at the top.
Thanks for the updates! This is working great for me and does everything I need for a desktop version; no fluff.. if I need more, I can just log into the online version right?
Keep up the good work.
@Victor Wihlborg: Same thing happened to me on my Windows 8 system – the Toggl application was missing a top bar (with close, maximize, minimize, etc.) when I initially ran the app. But after closing and restarting, it worked fine.
