The new Nano 03.02

Great news!

Today we launched a brand new version of our Nano timer:

The motivation behind the new Nano was to:

balance the design of the timer with the new administrative interface;
give the timer a more professional look;
make it clearer for first-time users;
add usability improvements like continuing a past task.

The overall personality of Nano has been preserved. There could be some bugs because the new Nano is still in the beta stage. You can try it out though and let us know how it feels. We’ll make adjustments to it based on your feedback.

Go ahead and try it out – select ‘Nano Nova’ as the default timer on ‘My settings’ page.

Looks squeaky clean. I use a google chrome direct-access link to launch toggl nano, it took me a bit of futzing to figure out how to do that Nano Nova. As a public service, the direct link is:

How can I use new Nano in Toggl Desktop?

Pushkan, the new Nano currently lacks offline support, that is why it does not display correctly in the Toggl Desktop. We’ll add the support very soon. In the meantime you’ll have to use the old Nano with the Toggl Desktop.

Looks great. Just starting using Toggl, and all great – except I think the nano function needs a “keep on top of all windows” function the same way the mini player iTunes function works. This way you can choose to have it on view all the time or not – I find as a freelance designer working on many projects, it is VERY easy to see hours slip past. With the nano sitting on top it would be a reminder to interact with it. Actually, now I think of it, why not a beep/alarm function, that you could set at whatever time interval you like – to remind you to update the time tracker?

Very nice. One small issue: when you click the ‘+’ to create a new task, the button that takes you back to the task list is a ‘Cancel’ button until you have chosen the Client/Project. However, when choosing an existing task (where the Client/Project is defaulted for you) the button still says ‘Cancel’ even though at that point it has been saved and is actually charging. If you hit cancel at that point, it takes you back to the task list with your new task running.

I LOVE Toggl, but… IMO Users may actually become more frustrated after using the nano timer. The nano timer encourages users to “resume” tasks because it is so easy to switch between the existing tasks. However, the current Toggl functionality doesn’t support resuming tasks adequately. You can’t view/edit the start/stop timestamps, and “Calculate Time” doesn’t take them into account. I look forward to your solution to this puzzle, team.
